The Central Department of Education is the leading education-providing department of the university. With dozens of programmes ranging from foundational courses to graduate degrees, and with active researchers and practitioners who contribute to local, national, and global knowledge and practice, the range of services offered by the faculty is broad and diverse. The Education Department is recognized as the leading department of the university, with the most active and energetic faculty members and administrative bodies.

The faculty is led by highly qualified and capable members who have visited different countries, and most of the faculty members have international exposure. The faculty is also officially recognized as the most research-productive and internationally reputable in the country. A high number of its active researchers are nationally and internationally recognized for their work.

The Central Department runs graduate and undergraduate programmes in different subjects such as English, Nepali, Health, Mathematics, and B.Ed. CSIT at the undergraduate level. The most globally demanding subjects—English (TESOL), Nepali, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Curriculum, Planning and Leadership (CPL), and Special Needs Education (SNE) are also offered at the graduate level. 

The faculty has introduced the concept of producing multi-dimensional teachers by offering minor courses alongside their major content courses.
